Dear Friends,
I am at a loss for words to express my sadness and sympathy for the people of Haiti. As I have witnessed the devastation resulting from the earthquake, there have even been times when I’ve felt helpless. But a colleague at BCT Partners reminded me that there is always something we can do to help.
One thing we can do is to grieve with those that grieve. Silence and tears are golden to someone who is deeply mourning a loved one. Another thing we can do is to rejoice with those that rejoice when a lost loved one is recovered.
Of course, those of us that are able to do so should give. Through our giving we send a message to others that we care. I have already made several $5 donations to Wyclef Jean’s organization, Yéle Haiti, by texting “YELE” to 501501, and several $10 donations to the American Red Cross by texting "HAITI" to 90999. If you have not done so already, I encourage you to support an organization doing work in Haiti.
One more thing we can do is take action. We can volunteer our time and talent to efforts that benefit Haiti. Accordingly, if you live in the greater New York City area, I invite you this Thursday, January 28, at 6 p.m. to the Global Syndicate's "Answering the Call" Haiti Earthquake relief fundraiser. I am joining other celebrities and elected officials such as Gloria Rueben, Matt Damon, Anthony Anderson, and Kevin Powell, along with several organizations to support this worthwhile event. To obtain more information, buy your ticket, or make a contribution, please visit: www.theglobalsyndicate.org.
Finally, we can all pray that the people of Haiti will continue to draw upon their unwavering strength and extraordinary spirit to rebuild their country, and that the international community will not allow the Haitian people to be forsaken or forgotten. Haiti must remain at the forefront of our collective conscious in the weeks, months and years to come.
Peace and blessings,
